Tanner Holmes Wins Two Straight!

Tanner Holmes On Hot Winning Streak; Wins At Southern Oregon And Cottage Grove Speedways

(Photo Courtesy of Stephanie Deatherage) Jacksonville, Oregon- Tanner Holmes finally hit Sprint Car pay dirt on Saturday, September 8th, at Southern Oregon Speedway. The Jacksonville teenager backed it up the following week at Cottage Grove Speedway to prove that his now a force to reckon with. This was coming off a string of impressive performances at dirt tracks in the Pacific Northwest.

Holmes visited Southern Oregon Speedway for the first time since embarking on the Interstate Sprint Car Series Speedweek a few weeks earlier. Starting up front Tanner won the heat race and made the redraw for the scramble. Running second in the short race it placed him outside pole in the feature.

Come the main event Holmes jumped out to the early lead and remained there the entire distance. When the checkered flag dropped the young man picked up his first career main event victory.

“The car was really fast and locked down,” stated Holmes, “it was awesome to get this monkey off my back and finally get a win.”

The big test was on Saturday, the 15th, at Cottage Grove Speedway. Over twenty entries from Oregon and Washington made the journey and all expected to leave with the winner’s check in hand. Qualifying in the upper echelon he managed again to win his heat race.

For the main event Holmes had the fortune of starting on the pole. After wrecks on the initial two starts the third time was the charm and Tanner got to the front right off the bat. However, he faced some heavy lapped traffic where he was severely challenged on several occasions. Despite the pressure he held on to win his second straight main event of the year.

“I still can’t believe I won. Lapped traffic was very key especially knowing that Tyler (Thompson) was right behind me. I felt like I was a little better than he was in open track but Tyler was really gaining on me in traffic.”
