(Photo Courtesy of TC Racing) Jacksonville, Oregon- The hot streak continues for teenager Tanner Holmes. After back-to-back wins in a Sprint Car at Southern Oregon and Cottage Grove Speedways, respectively, the Jacksonville native looked for the hat trick on Saturday, September 22nd. The TC Racing team headed back to Southern Oregon for the final home stand of the year where twenty-four cars were in attendance.
Drawing a good pill for his heat race Holmes started on the pole. Leading all ten laps Tanner was the pace setter the entire distance. It put him in the scramble and placed him starting eighth in the short event. Despite starting towards the back he managed to climb up to sixth. There he would start in the feature.
“In the scramble the car the was really good,” stated Tanner, “I managed to work the bottom of the track and pick a few cars off to get us a little bit better starting position.”
By the first lap after the drop of the green Holmes was up to fifth place. There he remained for some time.
“The bottom was still the preferred line and the first ten laps I hung out in fifth. We had a long green flag run until about lap eighteen or so. Then I was able to make some good moves.”
Utilizing the top side of the track in turns three and four, while working the bottom in turns one and two, Holmes picked one car off a lap and climbed deeper into the top five. By the final circuit he managed to hunt down the leader and beat him to the wire by a mere matter of feet to win his third straight Sprint Car feature.
“I ripped the top on that last restart and was able to finally get around some cars. I had to be wide open and the right rear had to be right on the cushion to make it work. I really thought we were going to be second but I gave it everything I had on that last corner. I’m very excited to keep up this incredible momentum.”
The TC Racing team heads to Coos Bay Speedway on Saturday, September 29th to race with the Interstate Sprint Car Series. It will be the final ISCS race of the season and are sitting in the top ten in points. For updates check out “TC Racing” on Facebook,www.tannerholmes.com, or his Vlog at “Tanner Holmes” on YouTube.
